Star of Providence is a roguelike bullet hell game developed and published by Team D-13. The game was released on Steam for Microsoft Windows and Linux on 7 June 2017.

Gameplay

"Star of Providence is a top down action shooter with procedurally generated elements. Explore a large, abandoned facility in search of incredible power, fighting dangerous foes and gaining new weapons and upgrades as you progress." ~ Official Steam description

In this game, the player explores procedurally generated floors, fighting any enemies and bosses that stand in their way while searching for a "great and calamitous power" at the lowest level of the Facility. The game begins in a tutorial area that teaches the player the basic mechanics, concluding in a brief encounter with another ship. Win or lose, the player is sent to the game's hub, from which they can exit to the south to replay the tutorial, or exit to the north to start a proper run.

Development

Team D-13, a team of four roguelike-fans-turned-developers, formed in 2015.[1] Since then, they have developed Star of Providence, which was released on Steam in June 2017 under the name Monolith.

A major update for the game, titled After the End, was released on July 17th, 2017. Notably, this update added the 'Hard Mode' difficulty.

Relics of the Past, a DLC for Monolith was released on December 25th, 2019. A large variety of changes were made to how the game plays, including adding Cartridges, new Ships, new Floors, and much more.

In 2023, given the name of the game was coincidentally similar to the video game company Monolith Productions, it was renamed to Star of Providence. When the name change was committed, Relics of the Past was integrated into the base game, no longer needing to be purchased as a DLC.

A major update to the game is set to release February 2025.[2] The Nintendo Switch version of the game will be released at the same time, published by BIGMODE, a video game publishing company created by gaming YouTuber videogamedunkey, who also published Animal Well.
