Hub

From Star of Providence Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The Hub is a location where the player can interact with NPCs or adjust settings before entering the first floor of the Facility. As the player progresses through the game, the Hub will gain more NPCs and features of various functions, but begins as a relatively bare room.

Default decorations, default ghost, diamond level trophy, silver rank trophy, figurines.
An almost fully furnished hub minus the watch. There is a Skelly and Tag Hermit.

Kleines

Kleines is a friendly, talkative cat that appears in the Hub after the player's first run. He is the only NPC that remains in the Hub at all times, as he provides a valuable service to the player. Using their post-run collection of debris, the player can make purchases through Kleines that will add new items, weapons, and upgrades into their existing pools, giving them a chance to show up on the player's next run, as well as new ships and other run-altering options.

Kleines also provides helpful tips and has several unique lines of dialogue depending on the cause of the player's most recent death.

Objects in the Hub

Furnishings

Accumulating debris through runs occasionally rewards new decorations for the Hub. Once the player has collected enough debris, Kleines will have a "Furnish" option that will add something to the Hub. For the first three rewards, Kleines will ask the Player if they like the current design of the new item, and swap it out for a new one if they say no, continuing until the Player says yes or until Kleines runs out of them. Once all 5 rewards have been received, the Furnish option becomes permanent and allows for changing designs freely.

Jukebox.png Jukebox

The Jukebox allows the Player to listen to any song in the game that they have previously heard. Songs that have been heard before will be listed by their name, while unknown songs will appear as '???'.

If Skully is present in the Hub, his dialogue will change based on which song is currently being played over the Jukebox.

HubTerminal.png Terminal

The Terminal is unlocked after clearing Floor 6 for the first time, and allows the player to customize their next run through a variety of settings. Options include choosing which ship is being played, changing the difficulty, changing run Lethality, playing a specific seed, and enabling loops. Available ships will be fully visible, while locked ships will appear as a silhouette. Most functions of the Terminal are initially unavailable and must be unlocked via various points of progression.

Bestiary Hub Sprite.png Bestiary

The Bestiary allows the player to view information about any Enemy in the Facility that they have already encountered. Enemies are categorized by race, with the exception of mini-bosses and bosses, who have their own categories.

Currently, an enemy's info sheet contains their in-game sprite, their type, and a brief line of information or dialogue related to them in some fashion. Much of this dialogue serves to expand Star of Providence's lore and world-building.

Mirror Hub Sprite.png Mirror

The Mirror allows the player to view saved records of previous runs and rematch any Boss that they have defeated. An icon next to any given boss's name indicates whether or not it has been defeated on Hard Mode. Not all bosses have a Hard Mode variant, so this icon is not present for all bosses.

By adjusting settings in the Terminal before engaging a boss in the Mirror, the player can choose to fight as any unlocked ship and with any Lethality setting. The boss's difficulty is chosen upon selecting to fight them.

HubTableEmpty.png Trophy Table

The Trophy Table contains the player's pet Ghost and numerous trophies indicating their various achievements so far. It appears the next time the Hub is entered after Kleines arrives.

Level Completion Trophy

This trophy indicates the furthest floor of the Facility that the player has completed. The trophy has five variants (only the best is displayed):

  • LevelTrophy1.png Wooden: Awarded for clearing the Excavation.
  • LevelTrophy2.png Bronze: Awarded for clearing the Archives.
  • LevelTrophy3.png Silver: Awarded for clearing the Maintenance System.
  • LevelTrophy4.png Gold: Awarded for clearing the Bellows.
  • LevelTrophy5.png Diamond: Awarded for clearing the Sanctum.

Rank Trophy

This trophy indicates the highest overall rank that the player has scored after completing a run. The trophy has five variants (only the best is displayed):

  • RankTrophy1.png Wooden: Awarded for receiving a 'D' rank overall.
  • RankTrophy2.png Bronze: Awarded for receiving a 'C' rank overall.
  • RankTrophy3.png Silver: Awarded for receiving a 'B' rank overall.
  • RankTrophy4.png Gold: Awarded for receiving an 'A' rank overall.
  • RankTrophy5.png Diamond: Awarded for receiving an 'S' rank overall (only rewarded if an S rank is achieved in all four categories in a single victory).

HubShipTrophies.png Ship Figurines

Figurines of Null and D-13 are rewarded for completing Floor 6 on the Normal and Hard difficulties, respectively.

HubPocketwatch.png The Watch

Completing a Floor 6, Hard mode victory and receiving an 'S' rank overall grants the Player the pocket watch, and a special cutscene if they were playing as D-13.

JarGhost.png Pet Ghost

After collecting 300,000G across all runs, Kleines gifts the Player a pet ghost in a glass jar. It can be interacted with, but is purely cosmetic. Hats can be placed on the ghost through Kleines' Furnish option once they are obtained by killing a ghost wearing the hat during a run.

There are 18 hats in total:

GhostHat01.png GhostHat02.png GhostHat03.png GhostHat04.png GhostHat05.png GhostHat06.png GhostHat07.png GhostHat08.png GhostHat09.png GhostHat10.png GhostHat11.png GhostHat12.png GhostHat13.png GhostHat14.png GhostHat15.pngGhostHat16.png GhostHat17.png GhostHat18.png

When interacted with, the pet ghost makes a *ghostly squeal*, or if it's wearing the cat ears (GhostHat04.png), it instead says "Meow." There's also a random chance each Hub visit for it to be asleep, in which case it says "Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz".

Other Hub NPCs

SkullyEnemyRight.png Skully

Can appear near the Jukebox and will comment on whichever song is playing. For all of his dialogue, see Jukebox.

SentinelEnemy.png Sentinel

Has a chance to appear once any piece of furniture has been placed in the Hub. When talked to, it will comment on some part of the Hub depending on where it is. The comment varies per the different pieces of furniture or rankings of trophies (different carpets will receive different comments, for instance).

BandanaHermit.png Bandana Hermit

The bandana-wearing hermit shares some fixed dialogue with the player upon speaking with them; they mainly just want to be left alone.

Dialogue
Condition Dialogue
First interaction (chosen randomly)
"I ain't got any business with you."
"I think you got the wrong hermit here."
"Mind if you just leave me be?"
"Not in the mood for talking."
Second interaction onwards
"Get lost."

HubBlastcore.png Blastcore

When spoken to, it will harmlessly explode. Once the player has found the Ribbon and spoken with Blastcore again, they will be treated with new dialogue and the Those You Could Save achievement.

In all future encounters with Blastcore in the Hub, they will be wearing the bow and will not explode, instead thanking the player for their help.

Dialogue
Condition Dialogue
First interaction
"I've been exploding for so long, I can recall naught else. My life is a waking nightmare."
Every subsequent interaction until ribbon is found
"I'm back. I really wish I weren't, but what can you do? Maybe this time it will stick."
Interaction after ribbon is found
"..! That ribbon. Please, let me have it."
Blastcore puts on the ribbon.
"... I remember now. Ha ha... these memories. It is so painful to relive them. But they are all I have. As miserable as this existence is, as long as I can cherish them... I can bear it. Thank you, Visitor."
Every subsequent interaction
"Thank you, Visitor. I will never forget what you did for me."

The Trader

The Trader serves as exposition for a large amount of the story of Star of Providence. When spoken to again after all normal exposition lines have been depleted, the Trader will allow the player to choose whether or not they would like to hear more about the story of the game. Whether or not they agree, the Trader will give some information. If the player agrees, they will give a relatively lengthy explanation for the games background, the Hub fades into a dark, star-filled room as the story is told. When the tale is concluded, the room fades to the normal Hub once again.

HermitEnemy.png Tag Hermit

A hermit without a bandana. When interacted with, they will move away from the player. If the player is quick, and interacts with the hermit again and again in quick succession, they will begin hearing a noise that indicates they are accumulating a combo in their improvised game of tag.

Once the Player reaches a tag chain of 30, the hermit suddenly explodes and the Player receives the Tag Champion Achievement. On the next Hub visit, a piece of paper will appear on the table showing the Player's highest tag chain, and the hermit will no longer explode at 30 tags, so the Player can push for an even higher score.

RadSentinel.png Rad Sentinel

Appears in the Hub at random. The Rad Sentinel allows the player to spend some of their accumulated debris in order to practice Hacking minigames. The more minigames the player completes in a single session, the faster and more difficult the minigames will become.

Accumulating a high score of 20 or higher grants the player the Hack Wizard achievement.
