Administrative Permissions

Hello everyone, on the Discord server we briefly discussed TenderGnat's role as a bureaucrat on the Wiki and seeking the possible revocation of that status primarily due to their inactivity. There was also a grievance that hsifyarc brought up in regards to Gnat deleting a large amount of content from a page they were working on, a while back. I've confirmed this incident in the logs, and made note of it.

Personally, I think that Gnat is a friendly and enthusiastic contributor when they are around, but at this point I'm afraid that their inexperience with the Wiki could lead to problems moving forward if they were to come back. The updates that hsifyarc mentioned lend to this, in that they didn't really have any regard for another user's content and did that without much, if any, regard.

Since the Wiki is growing, I think this is a change that should be made sooner rather than later so that we can establish a responsible admin crew moving forward, if others decide they are up to the task. If Gnat returns and we determine they are a responsible member of the community and someone who we can trust, then I would be happy to consider their administration once again. For now, however, I'm personally more comfortable with limiting that access.

Let me know your thoughts! -Coolant (talk) 21:25, 21 January 2022 (UTC)

Would you mind explaining what powers admins have?--Stavbearer (talk) 01:23, 22 January 2022 (UTC)Stavbearer
If they have absolute power, I think that it might be a bit too dangerous to have somebody who has deleted work before in that role. If your contacting gnat scheme works out, can you ask them Why they deleted that room page? Personally my is vote is to strip Gnat of Admin privileges, but to allow Gnat to retain editing potential, with some mild supervision.--Stavbearer (talk) 01:44, 22 January 2022 (UTC)Stavbearer
Yeah! So, in addition to the permissions that all users have (page editing, page creation, uploading files, etc), admins have ability to patrol pages, delete them, perform mass deletes, and block users, among other more niche or minor things.
Bureaucratic status, the one that I would need help from Miraheze Stewards to remove, allows one to edit the major settings of the Wiki such as the layout and the permissions for all user groups, to name two important ones.
In this case, Gnat would still be a user so he would still be able to interact with the Wiki in most ways, but this would prevent him from making changes that may be harmful to what has already been put in place. -Coolant (talk) 16:53, 24 January 2022 (UTC)
Yeah that seems a bit much for Gnat's case.--Stavbearer (talk) 19:19, 24 January 2022 (UTC)Stavbearer
Gnat showing themselves to be reckless with the power they have with regard to the content on the wiki, even if only once or a handful of times, I think in and of itself would be grounds for the removal of their privileges. Along with inactivity, I think it'd be a fitting choice to make to revoke their power here, but still welcome them to contribute to the wiki, and possibly let them regain the title if they return and prove trusting. For now though, we should establish active and reliable people in positions of power, since the wiki still is small and has large chunks of content missing. --Dialixx (talk) 02:32, 25 January 2022 (UTC)
