Breachstones
Breachstones are a special type of room that can appear on Floors 1-5 after Floor 6 has been cleared at least once. They offer the player an optional challenge in the form of dangerous breach rooms (or occasionally the Trespasser boss). In the center of the room is the breachstone itself, a large ominous structure resembling a stake or gravestone of some kind. If the player destroys it, a cloud of red particles flies up and the message "THE BREACH HAS BEEN OPENED" appears briefly. This unseals the two breaches elsewhere on the floor and reveals them on the map. Destroying the breachstone also has a 10% chance of immediately summoning Trespasser, a difficult but potentially very rewarding boss. If this happens, the breaches instead become normal shortcuts that don't require bombs to open, and are still revealed on the map. Only one breachstone can generate per loop.
Breaches
Breaches are optional challenge rooms that feature tougher enemies and disable non-basic weapons. While in a breach, the player's weapon is inaccessible and they are forced to use their ship's basic weapon, in addition to having their damage lowered. Breaches often contain enemies from Floor 6 and can even have minibosses. Once a breach is cleared, the hole in the background closes up, a few pickups appear as a reward, and the player's weapon is returned upon leaving the room. Breaches do not appear on the map until the breachstone is destroyed or the player picks up a map item, though they can be identified beforehand by their unique door sprite.
In a breach, the player's damage stat is temporarily reduced based on the formula (Player Damage / [1 + [.2 * Floor Number]]). From this, the damage reduction in breaches on each floor are as follows:
Floor | Damage in Breach |
---|---|
Floor 1 | 83.3% |
Floor 2 | 71.4% |
Floor 3 | 62.5% |
Floor 4 | 55.6% |
Floor 5 | 50% |
Notes
- The Reserves Upgrade and Scope Cartridge both improve the basic weapon, making them especially helpful in breaches.
- Entering a breach with a Cursed Weapon temporarily disables the curse's effect.
- Entering a breach is one of the few ways to stop firing Crimson Lotus before running out of ammo for it.
- If a breachstone is left intact, the breaches are not counted in the player's exploration rank.
