Keywords
"Many different weapons down there, all branded with 'Keywords'. They trade in firepower and capacity for some useful side-effects. Nifty, eh?" |
Keywords are modifiers that affect the properties of weapons. All weapons the player finds in the game will have at least two keywords attached to them, with a maximum of four.
Some keywords are universal to all weapons, but the majority are either shared between some or unique to certain weapons.
Universal Keywords
The following keywords are accessible by all weapons. Aside from "Freeze", all universal keywords must be purchased from Kleines. Infested is unlocked upon purchasing the Swarmer Pack.
All purging, anti-racial keywords not only eliminate on-death effects, but also reduce bullet sizes, make some bullets destructible, or have other helpful effects in many patterns from enemies of the affected race. These effects can be seen in normal enemies, mini-bosses, and bosses alike.

Non-Universal Keywords
The following keywords are accessible only by the weapons listed in their row. This does not include Unique weapons, which may have keywords outside of their weapon's normal domain.
Cannot appear simultaneously with the Align keyword.
Shots only bounce once. Thunderhead weapons possessing the Ricochet keyword have their damage reduced by 30%.
Adds two shots to each firing instance on the left and right sides of the usual shot, each dealing 50% damage; in exchange, reload time is increased by 50%. Fireball weapons possessing the Triple keyword have their damage reduced by ~6%. Drills possessing the Triple keyword have their maximum ammo reduced by 25% and damage reduced by 10%. The angle at which the additional shots are fired varies from weapon to weapon. On Laser, added lasers usually diverge from the center during a shot.
Phasing projectiles pass through terrain and wrap around the screen once, being destroyed on second contact with the screen's edge. Weapons using Phasing have their maximum ammo reduced by 33%. Additionally, Thunderheads with the Phasing keyword have their damage reduced by 30%.
On Charge, increases shot loading rate; on Laser, Thunderhead, and Railgun, reduces reload time between shots. The reduction for all weapons is 20%.
Causes electricity to arc from a directly damaged enemy to up to two enemies nearby.
Allows shots to pass through Aegis.
On Drill, only occurs on launch.
Split projectiles cannot damage the same target as the original projectile. On Pulsar, split shot distance travelled depends on distance travelled by source shot.
Shots react to both movement and rotation. Spear, Runic, and Vulcan weapons possessing the Align keyword have a 25% reduced shot velocity.
On Revolver, Base Ammo: 250→167; Clip Size: 6→3; shots replaced with clusters of pellets, and the damage of each pellet is 12.5% of the weapon's normal shot damage. On Charge, all loaded shots fire in a shotgun burst. On Fireball, Base Ammo: 88→75, fireballs replaced with clusters of explosive pellets, damage = (damage×1.5)/5, and delay between shots is increased by 25%. On Pulsar, rapid-fire replaced with quick 20-shot shotgun bursts. The delay between shots is 14 times longer (equal to the base rate of fire of the Spear, for reference), and its maximum ammo is substantially lower.

Unlocked via Swarmer Pack
Shoots behind you at the same rate of fire.
-- | |||

-- | |||

Side lasers emanate from midpoint of main laser(s).
Laser segments closest to the player radiate bullets first.
Killing several enemies or deleting several bullets in a short time charges the Sword, turning blade and ranged shots orange and increasing damage. Charged state persists on room changes and teleports, but wears off if the player goes too long without killing an enemy or deleting a bullet. Bloodlust persists when the player changes weapons, although in most cases it cannot be recharged. This is most notable with Chaos or when entering breaches. Outside of the buffed state, damage is reduced by 10%.
Reload time +50%, damage +80%, movement slowed while swinging. Additive with Quick.
Only applies to melee hits.
Tricky to use, but pays for it in damage. Note that it's only melee damage that increases, not the shot that comes from the sword when swinging.
−15% reload time. Additive with Heavy.
Deleted projectiles spawn bullets.
Blades, rather than orbiting, now are arranged in front of the player. Damage is reduced by 20%.
Instant Recall triggers on collision with terrain or the screen's edge. Shot damage is reduced by 10%.
Shot damage is reduced by 20%.

Blade count increased by 1, 50% slower flight, 50% increased damage.
Rate of fire and maximum ammo are doubled.
All projectiles of shot that empties the current clip are larger than normal and deal bonus damage.
Base Ammo: 250→167, Clip Size: 6→3. Each pair of shots only consumes 1 ammo. The damage of each shot is 80% that of a normal revolver shot.
Base Ammo: 500→1000; fire rate greatly increased (delay between shots is reduced by 60%), but damage of individual shots is decreased by 50%. Vulcan shots replaced by generic bullets fired in a spray. Additionally, the travel speed of these bullets is 50% faster. |
Unique Keywords
Some keywords only appear on unique weapons.
Shots pierce all targets in their path.
Causes the weapon's shots to do increased damage after bouncing off of walls.
Creates new rooms anywhere they can be created by drilling into the wall. This expends a significant amount of ammo.
After the player fires the weapon, a drill stays in front of them until all ammo is exhausted. The weapon will stop firing if the player enters a Breach Room.
Causes the player's weapon to deal high damage at a relatively low rate of fire.
Gives the player's weapon the Blessed property.
Marks an enemy with a yellow glow. Killing this enemy will give the player a brief buff to their speed, damage, or rate of fire. Hunted enemies take more damage.
Bombs attached to enemies will explode upon remote trigger activation.
The player's weapon will fire bombs that remain attached to enemies until detonation.
Marks a weak spot in the center of enemies that can be shot through to deal extra damage.
While the player's weapon is firing, they are invincible.
Causes bullet to explode when shot with another normal bullet.
Allows the player's weapon to destroy most tiles. |
Curses
Cursed Weapons contain one of seven cursed keywords. These keywords attach a negative effect to the weapon until the curse is broken. Any weapon carrying a curse will grant 2 HP and 5% damage upon picking it up. Submerging oneself in a blessing fountain while a cursed weapon is possessed will remove the curse.
Name | Icon | Description | Notes |

The cooldown to dash is almost doubled and does not send the ship as far or as fast.
Touching walls deals 1 HP of damage to the player. This includes moving blocks.
This includes increases to max health, HP parts, and healing from the Second Wind upgrade. Does not apply to the 2 HP gained when picking up the cursed weapon.
Damage is increased by 1 for all enemy attacks.
An Insubstantial will occasionally spawn while in combat. This does not happen when fighting Bosses. There is a short time when you enter a room where an Insubstantial will not spawn if you clear the room within that window.
The player can only shoot in vertical, horizontal, and diagonal directions. This currently is very buggy when combined with the Align keyword, and causes your fired attacks to fly in unpredictable directions. |
