Bestiary Entry"The Behemoth class represented a grave death toll, perhaps the highest in the whole war.

Whole cities fell to ruin, underfoot to the possessed machinery."

Kleines portrait1.png "The Behemoth is an interesting specimen. I can tell it was designed for an all-out war. All that firepower may look impressive, but for somebody as nimble as you? Should be a piece of cake."

Behemoth is one of four bosses that can be encountered in Archives. Its design is somewhat more conventional than most enemies in Monolith, resembling a large tank.

Its AI is extremely simple; it randomly chooses one of two attacks to start with, and from there it is locked into a strict pattern for the rest of the fight. Its movement is also simple; at the bottom of the arena, it will glide back and forth, thrusting to change direction, and at the top of the arena, it will thrust back and forth more frantically. It changes its place in the arena based on the attack it's using.

Attack Patterns

Description Video
Behemoth enters the arena by charging in from the top of the screen. BehemothNormalAttack1.gif
For most of this attack, Behemoth fires three layers of tri-shots. But for every time it does this twice, it will fire a burst of small bullets, with the first burst having 3 bullets, and each one afterwards adding an additional bullet. The attack ends after the burst of 5 small bullets.

Each shot in this attack is aimed directly at the player, but while the top layer is accurate, each layer behind it is slightly less accurate. However, all the bullets in each layer are equally spaced from the other bullets in that layer.

Behemoth will always thrust to the right at the start of this attack. This is one of the ways Behemoth can start the fight.

BehemothNormalAttack2.gif
After the previous attack, Behemoth fires a burst of neatly spaced large bullets with the middle one aimed towards the player, and this burst also has two slightly offset bursts of popcorn bullets, which are also evenly spaced from one another.

It then rapidly fires tri-shots with perfect accuracy.

After this, Behemoth fires a burst with identical rules to the opening blast of this attack.

BehemothNormalAttack3.gif
After the previous attack, Behemoth's turret flashes, signaling that it will charge upwards and spray 3 neatly spaced bursts of bullets.

The first and last burst are aimed at the player, but the second is aimed to the player's sides.

This is the other way Behemoth can start the fight. It will thrust to the left beforehand if it does, but otherwise it will already be on the left.

BehemothNormalAttack4.gif
After the previous attack, Behemoth fires two lines of large bullets, flanked by small bullets.

Immediately after firing these lines, it shoots two exploding fire shots, also flanked by small bullets.

After using this attack once, it will always use the previous attack again, and then this attack again, before using the next one:

Behemoth charges into the center of the arena and rapidly spins its turret, spraying large bullets, followed by slightly slower mid-sized bullets, in several directions.

It stops short of completing a fourth rotation.

After this attack, it will always go back to the attack with the three-layered tri-shots.

Hard Mode

Some parts of Behemoth's pattern get extra bullets, but the main difference is a new phase at 33% health.

Description Video
Behemoth charges up and fires a laser across the arena to the lower right. It then begins dragging the laser clockwise, across the perimeter of the screen, frequently thrusting to reposition.

Each time it thrusts, it fires a burst of medium-sized blue bullets, along with either a flurry of small bullets in an X shape, a flurry of clumped popcorn bullets, or circles of small bullets, chosen at random.

Trivia

  • Behemoth is one of a few enemies that appeared in one of Team D-13's previous projects, Last Fighter D.
  • Behemoth's background is a simple ground texture, it is unfortunately not a flying tank.
  • Even at minimal DPS, Behemoth cannot get through its whole attack pattern if the player is constantly landing their shots.
