Reactor is a stationary boss found in the Bellows. It appears to be an evolution of the Soul Extractor enemy line, especially in its Hard Mode-exclusive second phase.

Attack Patterns

Description Video
Reactor's side-turrets release a burst of small, bouncing bullets. ReactorAttack1.gif
Danger warnings appear across the screen before Reactor releases an evenly-spaced vertical array of electricity from one side of the screen and then the other. The second set of vertical columns is positioned to fire in the gaps of the first set. ReactorAttack2.gif
Danger warnings appear from various positions across the top of the screen and converge on the player's position, firing off electric blasts down them a moment later. ReactorAttack3.gif
Reactor releases four Crazy Ghosts, which explode in a space previously occupied by the player. ReactorAttack4.gif
Reactor fires off several small, swirling, and popcorn bullets from the center of its weakpoint, outward at several spaced-out angles, with some spacing between different bullet types being tighter than others. ReactorAttack6.gif
Upon Reactor's health falling to 50% of its maximum, the hatches on its side each release a Heavy Sentinel. ReactorAttack7.gif
Several vertical danger warnings appear across half of the screen, covering almost all of the side on which they appear, before Reactor releases vertical arrays of electricity down them. This repeats on the opposite side of the screen. The electricity is spaced such that there will be some degree of safety for the player, even if they do not move to the side opposite of the attack. ReactorAttack8.gif
Reactor's side-turrets can shoot off several flaming bullets or a burst of swirling bullets and a large, medium, and small bullet directed at the player in tandem with its other attacks. The videos to the right demonstrate the same major attack being accompanied by different supplemental attacks. ReactorAttack5.gif

Hard Mode

When playing on Hard Mode, after destroying the Reactor's exterior and proceeding into the elevator, the player enters Reactor's interior and engages its core in combat.

Description Video
The central tank fires a hexagonal burst of medium-sized bullets outward. Any of the remaining soul tanks will fire off a medium-sized bullet in the direction of the player as well. ReactorHardAttack2.gif
The central tank emits danger warnings forming an X-shape before producing four widely spaced, curving bullet streams that all rotate briefly in the same direction.

When the soul tanks in the corners have been destroyed, the central tank will use a stronger variant of this attack that includes needle-like bullets being fired off in addition to the rotating and small bullets that are regularly present.
ReactorHardAttack1.gif

ReactorHardAttack5.gif
A danger warning appears, directed at the player. Shortly after, the central tank fires of a laser down its path while simultaneously firing a burst of medium-sized bullets outward from its center. Many of these bullets overlap, and small spaces are left between some for the player to dodge through.

When the soul tanks in the corners have been destroyed, the central tank will fire a larger laser off. The rest of the attack pattern appears to remain the same.

Destroying the Reactor's core deposits the player back in the original boss room. The player may then finish exploring the Bellows and proceed to the Sanctum when they are ready.

Trivia

  • The Hard Mode-exclusive Reactor Core receives its own boss subtitles when combat against it begins. The only other "sub-bosses" for which this happens are the fusion bosses of Database.
  • Reactor is the only boss with multiple phases to have a "break period" between phases that allows the player to leave the boss room and do other things before returning and continuing the battle.
